Description
GST Cash Refund is a government process in which businesses can get back the excess tax they have paid or the unused Input Tax Credit (ITC). This refund applies in various cases such as:
- Export of goods or services without payment of tax under Letter of Undertaking (LUT)
- Inverted Duty Structure (where input tax is higher than output tax)
- Excess cash paid in the cash ledger
- Refund on account of deemed exports or supplies to SEZ
- Tax paid mistakenly or due to cancellation of transactions
Refund applications must be filed online on the GST portal using Form RFD-01. Documents like invoices, export shipping bills, bank realization certificates, and GST returns must be submitted.
Refunds are usually processed within 60 days from the date of application. Delays may lead to interest payment by the government.
